Viktor Hambardzumyan’s testament
1.To my Following Generations, grandchildren, grand- grandchildren I will to be competent of the Armenian language. Everyone should consider his duty to study the Armenian language, to be literate in Armenian, regardless of the percent of Armenian blood in him. That percent does not mean anything. We are giving to the new generations not blood, but ideas and concepts and in these ideas the most valuable thing, for me, is the Armenian language. In this connection, each generation must teach the next generations to the Armenian language. You know, the greatest joy in my life was and will be, as long as I’m living, the knowledge of the Armenian language. I wish happiness to all of you.
2.“To my descendants, grandchildren and great grandchildren I bequeath to master the Armenian language. It must be everyone’s duty to study the Armenian language, be literate in it despite the percentage of Armenian blood flowing in their veins. That percentage means nothing. It is not blood that we pass on to our descendants but the ideas, and the most expensive of all the ideas for me is the Armenian language. In this respect each generation is obliged to teach the Armenian language to the next generation. Be aware, that the biggest happiness in my life has been and will be, as long as I live, mastering the Armenian language. Wish happiness to all of you”…
